A Little About Me:

I want to welcome you to Room 117 and the world of Junior High Social Studies!  With your help and support, this will be an interesting and productive year of learning and discovery.  If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to call, e-mail, or set up a conference.

I have completed twenty-seven years as a classroom teacher, and twenty-four years at Brookeland I.S.D.  I have a Bachelor of Science in Education, and am a certified Teacher in the State of Texas.  I taught third grade here in Brookeland for ten years before making the move to Junior High Social Studies in the fall of 2009.

Developing a love for History during college provided the opportunity for me to graduate with a minor in History and has allowed me the opportunity to utilize that love and teach Social Studies to our Junior High students.  This year I am excited to be teaching World Geography (6th grade), Texas History (7th grade), and U.S. History (8th grade).

Brookeland ISD Grading Policy

Daily Grades = 40%   Test Grades = 60%

Brookeland ISD Make-Up Work Policy

Students returning to school from an absence will have THREE (3) DAYS to complete all missed assignments and return them to their teacher.  Assignments can often be loaded into Google Classroom creating an excellent opportunity to keep from getting behind during an absence.

Brookeland ISD Corrections (Redo) Policy

Students will have THREE (3) DAYS after a paper is returned to make corrections and return the assignment to their teacher.  Papers not returned in this time period will receive the grade originally recorded.  Policy only pertains to papers receiving a grade below 70.  Papers may only be corrected to a grade of 70.

Mrs. Smith's Classroom Corrections Procedure

Students choosing to correct a paper and have it regraded must follow these guidelines:

  1. All corrections MUST be done in RED.
  2. Original answers MUST NOT be erased.
  3. Work must be legible.
  4. Corrections turned in that do not follow these guidelines will not be regraded, and the original grade will remain in the gradebook.
