2025-2026 Class Syllabus
Course Description
Welcome to 2nd & 3rd Grade ELA/Writing! This class is designed to help students become confident, creative, and effective writers. Throughout the year, students will explore various forms of writing including narrative, opinion, and informational texts. We will focus on organizing ideas, expanding vocabulary, using correct grammar and punctuation, and expressing thoughts clearly.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the school year, students will be able to:
Write complete sentences with correct punctuation and grammar
Organize their writing with a clear beginning, middle, and end
Use descriptive details and varied word choices
Write for different purposes: to inform, to entertain, and to persuade
Plan, draft, revise, and publish their writing
Assessment & Grading
Students will be assessed through:
Daily journal entries
Rubric-based writing assignments
Participation in class discussions and group activities
Weekly spelling & grammar skills
Grading policy: Tests= 60% & Daily Work= 40%
Make-Up Work:
Late work policy, per district handbook: students will have three days to
complete assignments after an absence.
Retake Policy:
If a student receives a failing grade on a daily assignment or test, they will
be given 3 days to retake or correct the assignment for a maximum grade
of a 70, per district handbook.
